Public Meeting

Youth Art Project

The Arts Office has extended the residency to bring in four recent graduates from Limerick School of Art and Design to work on a Youth Art project incorporating photography, design and mural- based wall painting. The project will take place from 13th – 17th August and will be open to 10 – 16 year olds. Parents and interested youth are invited to attend a Public Meeting to discuss the project in Aras Odhrain, Silvermines at 7.30 on Wednesday August 1st. Registration forms and bookings will be taken on that evening, or for more information people can contact the Arts Office at rgleeson@northtippcoco.ie

Space Shuttle arrives in Silvermines!

On July 4th the Space Shuttle made the trip from Nenagh to Silvermines to become the Imaginary Museum in the project Imagining Silvermines; a psychogeography with full planning permission for it's temporary siting there.

Artist Presentation

As part of the Training Day for Artists, Fiona Woods will give a presentation on her practice,looking at ways of expanding one's practice to cover areas such as Public Art, Arts-in-Context, Curating, Discursive Events and others.

North Tipperary County Council apply for Part 8 Planning Permission to locate a temporary structure at Silvermines as part of a community art project.

The plans and particulars will be available for inspection at normal office hours at the Arts Office, North Tipperary County Council, Civic Offices, Limerick Rd, Nenagh; the County Council Area Office, Main Street, Newport and during normal school hours at Silvermines National School, for a period of six weeks from Thursday, April 26th to Wednesday, June 6th 2007.

The Space Shuttle sets course for North Tipperary!

The Ground Up Artists' Collective was recently awarded the Space Shuttle (for mor information on the Space Shuttle see http://www.spaceshuttle.org.uk/). Fiona Woods proposed that the first use of the Space Shuttle would be a part of her residency in North Tipp; the Space Shuttle will arrive in May of 2007 and form a central aspect of the collaborative project that she undertakes as part of the residency.

North Tipperary Artist-in-Residence, Fiona Woods, will initiate her residency and the 2007 Spring Series with this talk.  Her presentation will focus on the work of a number of artists who engage with complex ecologies of place and site.

This will be followed by an open discussion on imagined futures for the rural context. The discussion could touch on a broad range of issues, from community planning to the future of food and the role of culture in the ecological crisis facing us. All are welcome.

The artist discussed her own work in rural contexts, and also looked at work by the following artists - Sarah Browne [IRL] A Model Society; Åsa Sonjasdotter [DK] Potato Perspective; Vladimir Arkhipov [RUS] Functioning Forms Ireland; N55 [DK] Manual for Small Truck; Tamas Kaszas [HUN] Seashore Reliefs; Esther Polak [NL], Ieva Auzina [LAT] Milk Project; Various Artists [ZA] !Xoe Site-Specific.
