Article for CAVA newsletter;

Often when people hear that I am a visual artist, they expect that I will be making paintings or sculptures. I see my role more as that of a cultural worker. To make anything - a painting, a sculpture, a meal, a jumper, a garden, a hurley, a house - it first has to be imagined. That’s what really interests me – what do people imagine? How do they imagine?

For my residency in North Tipperary I am trying to find out what the people here imagine about where they live, who they are, what kind of world they want their children to inherit. For these first few weeks I am traveling around, meeting people, gathering stories, anecdotes, informal histories, viewpoints. I particularly would like to make contact with groups who share an interest whether it’s in local history or model trains, and also any community who would be interested in hosting my residency – I’m completely open to ideas!

The outcome of the project could be anything – an exhibition, a book, a local food fair - it really depends on what comes out through the research, so please contact me at fiwoods@eircom.net or you can follow the project online at www.shiftingground.net/tipp.htm
